Reinhard Voigt
Active since the early 1990s in Cologne, Reinhard Voigt develops an approach to techno closely tied to the history of the local scene and the rise of Kompakt, a structure he helped bring to light with his brother Wolfgang Voigt, Jörg Burger and Jürgen Paape from the Delirium record shop. His work sits between minimal techno, repetitive loops, dry textures and ironic offsets, with a marked sense for reduced motifs and direct constructions. Reinhard Voigt has also released under several aliases, notably Pentax, Sweet Reinhard, S.R.I., Kron and Sturm, which illuminates the diversity of his path between brutal minimalism, more abrasive experiments and forms close to electro or industrial ambient. Under the name Pentax, he released Das Album in 1997 then Konkret in 1999 on Profan, before publishing in his own name Premiere World in 2000 and Im Wandel der Zeit in 2001. Over the years, Reinhard Voigt remains associated with the Kompakt catalog, both solo and in collaborations with Michael Mayer, including Time Is Running in 2015, then Reisen und Speisen in 2016. His more recent discography includes Was Wir Spüren in 2019, Sturm in 2020 and the EP Cha Cha Club in 2022, extending an electronic language based on repetition, discreet tension and a deliberately pared-down writing.
