Pentatonix
Formed in 2011 in Arlington, Texas, the a cappella quintet Pentatonix comprises Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and, since 2017, Matt Sallee, who succeeded vocal bass Avi Kaplan. The group rose to prominence by winning the third season of the American TV show The Sing-Off, which launched a busy run of online videos and international tours. Pentatonix has built a repertoire centered on covers of pop, R&B and electronic tracks, themed medleys and, gradually, original compositions, with a strong emphasis on tight harmonies, sung bass lines and vocal percussion. A significant portion of Pentatonix’s activity is devoted to Christmas music, which features regularly in their releases and on stage. After several EPs, the group notably released the albums That's Christmas to Me (2014), Pentatonix (2015), A Pentatonix Christmas (2016), The Lucky Ones (2021) and Holidays Around the World (2022). Highly active on video platforms and social media, Pentatonix engages in frequent one-off collaborations—for example with Lindsey Stirling or Dolly Parton—and performs regularly on major stages across North America and Europe.
