Mystery Skulls
Under the name Mystery Skulls, Luis Dubuc has since the early 2010s developed a project based in Los Angeles, after having first been active within the Dallas, Texas-based group The Secret Handshake. Mystery Skulls sits between synthpop, electronic funk, modern disco and alternative pop, with a marked taste for smooth basslines, danceable rhythms and a vocal style that borrows as much from pop as from R&B. The project emerged with the EP Back to Life in 2011, then took a broader form with the album Forever in 2014, followed notably by One of Us in 2016 and Beam Me Up in 2019. Over these releases, Luis Dubuc has evolved Mystery Skulls from fairly direct electro-pop writing toward a more hybrid format, where retro references, club production and melodic refrains cross. Mystery Skulls also circulates in varied scenes, from electro to indie pop, with increased visibility thanks to the visual universe associated with the project, especially around the animated series tied to the track 'Ghost'. Behind this identity, Mystery Skulls remains above all the solo vehicle of Luis Dubuc, who controls its writing and overall aesthetics.
