Caravan Palace
Formed in Paris in the mid-2000s, Caravan Palace brings together musicians from Manouche jazz, classical music and electronic scenes around an electro-swing project that fuses the legacy of the 1920s–1930s with contemporary club culture. The group first attracted attention online with demos posted on Myspace, before signing to the French label Wagram and releasing a self-titled debut album in 2008, where swing samples, Manouche guitars, brass and house rhythms shape Caravan Palace’s aesthetic. The second album, Panic (2012), emphasizes the dancefloor dimension while retaining very melodic songwriting, whereas <I°_°I> (2015), often called Robot Face, introduced more electronic textures, synthetic basslines and processed vocals. With Chronologic (2019) Caravan Palace further widened its stylistic range by incorporating pop, funk and more contemporary electronic influences, without abandoning references to swing and earlier jazz. On stage the group presents a full-band format with a singer, a rhythm section and acoustic instruments, performing both in contemporary music venues and at major European and international festivals.
