TWRP

Formed in the late 2000s in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and later based in Toronto, Canadian band TWRP has developed an aesthetic where funk, rock, disco and synthwave intersect, clearly inspired by science fiction and 1980s pop culture. Originally active under the name Tupper Ware Remix Party, TWRP adopted masked personas and a comic‑book visual language that shape both their live shows and album art. Around the core of Doctor Sung, Lord Phobos, Commander Meouch and Have Mercy, TWRP has built a trajectory spanning the North American independent scene, arena and hall tours, and online broadcasts. Their discography includes albums such as Believe in Your Dreams (2012), Guardians of the Zone (2015), Together Through Time (2018), Return to Wherever (2019), Over the Top (2020), New & Improved (2021) and Digital Nightmare (2023), which progressively move the band from a very electronic register toward songwriting more centered on funk rock, melodic basslines and vocoded choruses. TWRP’s regular collaborations with Ninja Sex Party and Starbomb anchor the project within a network of artists connected to the web, video games and animation, while maintaining a constant emphasis on the performative dimension of their live work.
