Mon Laferte
Born in Viña del Mar, Chile in 1983 as Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte, Mon Laferte first became known in her home country in the early 2000s before relocating to Mexico — a move that marked a lasting turning point in her trajectory. She has since built a discography where Latin pop, rock, canción, bolero, ranchera, cumbia and Latin American romantic traditions intersect, with songwriting centered on the voice, storytelling and arrangements that range from electric lineups to more classical orchestrations. After La chica de Rojo (2003), released under her birth name, she resumed her path with Desechable (2011) and Tornasol (2013), then refined her identity with Mon Laferte Vol. 1 (2015), La Trenza (2017), Norma (2018), Seis (2021), 1940 Carmen (2021) and Autopoiética (2023). Straddling the Mexican rock scene, Latin American canción and formats closer to cabaret or bolero, Mon Laferte evolves her repertoire without remaining fixed to a single register. She alternates between direct, front-facing tracks, ballads of the Spanish-speaking tradition and more contemporary compositions, in a career shared between Chile and Mexico.
