Los Auténticos Decadentes

Formed in Buenos Aires in 1986, Los Auténticos Decadentes are part of the Argentine rock movement, blending ska, rock, cumbia, murga porteña and elements of Latin American pop. The collective, whose lineup varies but is structured around several singers and songwriters, attracted attention in the late 1980s on the capital’s independent scene before releasing their first album, El milagro argentino, in 1989, followed by Supersónico in 1991. Across their records, notably Mi vida loca (1995) and Cualquiera puede cantar (1997), Los Auténticos Decadentes developed a direct writing style focused on everyday life, humour and urban popular codes, while reinforcing the role of brass-band rhythms and nods to Latin American song. Regularly appearing on Argentina’s major stages and at festivals across Latin America, the group has engaged in numerous collaborations with musicians from rock en español, ska and cumbia. With MTV Unplugged: Fiesta Nacional (2018) they revisited an already widely shared repertoire in an acoustic version, and in the early 2020s they launched the ADN project, a series of albums reinterpreting Latin American classics that underlines the band’s roots in the broader history of the continent’s popular music.
