Médéric Collignon

Born in 1970 in Villers-Semeuse in the Ardennes, Médéric Collignon has, since the 1990s, built a career at the intersection of contemporary jazz, improvised music and rock aesthetics. A cornet player, vocalist and composer, Collignon uses the voice as a fully-fledged instrument—between scat, singing and declamation—directly linked to a taut cornet technique and rhythmic forms shaped by free jazz, funk and progressive rock. Initially active in collective projects and major French jazz ensembles, he later led several groups under his own name while moving between jazz festivals, experimental stages and cross-disciplinary creations. His work sets composition and improvisation, acoustic and electric, in dialogue, without compartmentalizing repertoires or separating instrumental practice from vocal expressivity. Through his projects, Collignon has developed a language in which cornet, voice and group energy obey a single compositional logic.
