David Linx
Born in Brussels in 1965, David Linx grew up in a musical environment connected to jazz and began his career as a drummer before dedicating himself to singing in the late 1980s. Active since 1984, Linx has developed a supple, highly articulated vocal jazz grounded in the standards repertoire, songwriting and a careful attention to text in both French and English. After Hungry Voices in 1988 he recorded A Lover’s Question in 1990 and built a substantial part of his career alongside pianist Diederik Wissels; the two have formed a duo since 1992 and released several albums including Up Close (1997), Heartland (2001) and This Time (2003). David Linx subsequently alternates between small-format projects and orchestral collaborations with Paolo Fresu, Maria João and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, heard on Changing Faces (2007), A Different Porgy & Another Bess (2012) and Brel (2016). His trajectory also encompasses francophone song, performances across Belgian, French and European stages, and teaching at the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. With 7000 Miles (2018) and Skin In The Game (2020), David Linx continues a body of work in which vocal improvisation, rhythmic precision and composition occupy a central place.
