Masters At Work
Formed in New York around 1990, Masters At Work brings together Little Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, two producers and DJs from the city's house scene with strong roots in Latin, soul and club cultures. Masters At Work developed an approach to house and garage house that combines deep rhythms, a disco legacy, Afro‑Latin percussion and a sense of groove drawn from both hip‑hop and soul. Over their career the duo have also worked under several aliases, including MAW, KenLou and Nuyorican Soul — a more organic project that broadened their palette to jazz, salsa, funk and studio‑played arrangements. Under that name, the 1996 album Nuyorican Soul remains a key landmark. From the 1990s onward Masters At Work also became a sought‑after remix team, reworking tracks for pop, R&B and electronic artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Jamiroquai and Daft Punk. Among their most recognised tracks, "The Ha Dance" (1991) circulated widely in New York club and ballroom scenes. Still active, Masters At Work relaunched MAW Records in 2021.
