Layla Zoe

Rooted in the North American blues scene, Layla Zoe is from British Columbia, Canada, and has developed since the early 2000s a career centered on blues, blues rock and a soul informed by rootsy sounds. After beginnings in Canadian clubs and festivals, she spends part of the year in Europe, where she regularly tours in Germany, the Netherlands, France and several Nordic countries, often booked on stages dedicated to blues and improvised music. Her discography, alternating studio albums and live recordings, emphasizes a largely original repertoire while maintaining links to traditional blues. The Lily (2013), produced with German guitarist Henrik Freischlader, marked an important step in her European exposure, followed by Breaking Free (2016), Gemini (2018) and Nowhere Left To Go (2020), on which Layla Zoe explores a more introspective songwriting approach, between slow ballads and more rock-oriented tracks. On stage as in the studio, her project relies heavily on vocal improvisation, interaction with the band and extended, jam-like song formats.
