Carolyn Wonderland
Born in Houston, Texas as Carolyn Bradford, Carolyn Wonderland has developed since the 1990s a career rooted in American blues, with guitar playing and vocals that also incorporate elements of country, swing, zydeco, soul, gospel, surf music and cumbia. She first gained recognition with Carolyn Wonderland and the Imperial Monkeys, a group active in the early part of her career, before moving to Austin in 1999, where she became a longstanding presence on the city’s roots and blues scene. Her discography includes Groove Milk (1993), Play with Matches (1995) and Bursting with Flavor (1997) with the Imperial Monkeys, and as a solo artist Alcohol & Salvation (2001), Bloodless Revolution (2003), Miss Understood (2008), Peace Meal (2011), Live Texas Trio (2015), Moon Goes Missing (2017), Tempting Fate (2021) and Truth Is (2025). Carolyn Wonderland has also participated in several collective projects in Austin, including A Loose Affiliation of Saints and Sinners and Sis DeVille. In 2018 she joined John Mayall’s band as lead guitarist, appearing on the albums Nobody Told Me (2019) and The Sun Is Shining Down (2022), extending a trajectory through clubs, tours and American blues-rock stages.
