Marduk
Formed in Norrköping, Sweden in 1990 around guitarist Morgan Håkansson, the sole founding member still present, Marduk sits in the lineage of the most front-line Scandinavian black metal, with music based on speed, cutting riffs, a very dense rhythm section and a raspy vocal. After the demo Fuck Me Jesus in 1991, the band releases Dark Endless in 1992 and then follows with Those of the Unlight in 1993, Opus Nocturne in 1994 and Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered in 1996, a period during which its writing refines a more direct and aggressive sound. Marduk has changed singers and rhythm sections several times over the years, while maintaining a stable identity, marked by dark, anti-religious and warlike imagery. With Nightwing in 1998, Panzer Division Marduk in 1999, La Grande Danse Macabre in 2001 and World Funeral in 2003, the band further expands its audience on the international extreme scene and undertakes tours in Europe, America and Asia. Since the arrival of vocalist Mortuus in 2004, Marduk has continued this trajectory with Plague Angel in 2004, Rom 5:12 in 2007, Wormwood in 2009, Serpent Sermon in 2012, Frontschwein in 2015, Viktoria in 2018 and Memento Mori in 2023, while maintaining a harsh, martial and direct black metal.
