Gorgoroth
Founded in 1992 in Bergen, Norway, Gorgoroth quickly established itself on the local black metal scene as part of the second Norwegian wave. Initiated by guitarist Infernus, the band developed from the outset a raw, direct sound centered on sharp guitars, fast rhythms and a screamed vocal that carried openly satanic and anti-Christian themes. Early albums such as “Pentagram” (1994), “Antichrist” (1996) and “Under the Sign of Hell” (1997) anchored the Norwegian group in a minimalist, aggressive aesthetic marked by stripped-down production. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, with vocalists like Hat, Pest and later Gaahl and a rotating lineup around Infernus, Gorgoroth moved toward more elaborate song structures, evident on “Destroyer” (1998), “Incipit Satan” (2000) and “Twilight of the Idols” (2003), while retaining its radical tone. A legal dispute over the name Gorgoroth in the late 2000s pitched Infernus against former members, before the guitarist officially retained control of the project and resumed recordings with “Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam” (2006), “Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt” (2009) and “Instinctus Bestialis” (2015). On stage, Gorgoroth remains associated with striking visual performances, playing mainly in Europe but also beyond, and continues to embody a form of Norwegian black metal that combines repetitive riffs, dark atmospheres and extreme imagery.
