Kim Churchill

Born in 1990 in Canberra and raised in Merimbula on the south coast of New South Wales, Australian singer-songwriter Kim Churchill works in a folk and roots vein shaped by surf culture and life on the road. Acoustic guitar, harmonica and percussion played simultaneously underpin a highly physical performance, serving songs that blend intimate ballads with forms closer to alternative rock. Churchill first made a name for himself in Australia through busking and club stages, before gradually expanding to Europe and North America, where he has kept up a steady run of concerts and festivals. His discography took shape in the early 2010s with albums such as Detail of Distance (2012), Silence/Win (2014) and Weight Falls (2017), followed by a series of EPs including 2019’s I Am, which explores a more fragmented, nomadic kind of writing. Over years of touring, Kim Churchill has developed a repertoire centered on the voice and rhythmic drive, positioned between contemporary folk, understated blues and melodic pop.
