K-Klass

Born between Wrexham in Wales, Chester in England and Manchester’s club scene in the late 1980s, K-Klass formed around Andy Williams, Carl Thomas, Russ Morgan and Paul Roberts after encounters linked to the Haçienda and the early circulation of British house. The project sits within an electronic aesthetic centered on house, garage house and vocal house, featuring direct rhythms, supple basslines, synthetic pads and a strong emphasis on vocals, notably Bobbi Depasois on several standout tracks. After the EP The Wildlife in 1990, K-Klass became known in the early 1990s with “Rhythm Is a Mystery”, followed by “So Right”, “Don’t Stop”, “Let Me Show You” and “What You’re Missing”. Their album discography includes Universal (1993), K2 (1998) and K-Klass Presents: House Classics (2017). Alongside their productions, K-Klass developed an extensive remix career for pop, soul and dance artists — from Bobby Brown to Janet Jackson, New Order and The Corrs — and also worked in production, notably with Pet Shop Boys. Over time the lineup narrowed to Russ Morgan and Paul Roberts, with Bobbi Depasois remaining associated with the group’s history and performances.
