Kendra Morris

Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and later based in Brooklyn, Kendra Morris has, since the early 2010s, built a career at the intersection of soul, R&B, funk, indie rock and a pop tinged with psychedelia. Her approach relies on flexible song formats, where nods to classic soul meet drier rhythms and colors drawn from hip‑hop, while maintaining a very direct melodic songwriting. Kendra Morris first drew attention with Banshee in 2012, before releasing Mockingbird in 2013, a covers album that reveals another facet of her repertoire. With Babble in 2016 she extended this blend of groove, dense arrangements and pop tension, and returned with I Am What I’m Waiting For in 2022. Her trajectory is rooted in the New York independent scene, between contemporary soul, alternative songcraft and retro aesthetics reworked for a more current context, with constant attention to voice, textures and the dynamics of the tracks.
