Julio Iglesias

Born in Madrid in 1943, Julio Iglesias rose to prominence from the late 1960s with a popular song rooted in romantic balladry, Latin pop, and orchestrated variety. His entry into music followed a youth marked by football and a serious car accident, before a victory at the Benidorm Festival in 1968 with 'La vida sigue igual', then an international exposure with 'Gwendolyne' at Eurovision 1970. Over the 1970s and 1980s, Julio Iglesias developed a repertoire based on smooth melodies, a hushed delivery, and a vocal phrasing that is highly recognizable, spanning Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, and English.
