Hempress Sativa

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Hempress Sativa emerged in the early 2010s within the reggae revival scene developing around the capital. A singer and songwriter, she has built a repertoire at the crossroads of roots reggae, dancehall and dub, with hip‑hop, soul and jazz inflections that broaden the style’s traditional boundaries. Her approach alternates singing, toasting and spoken-word diction in tracks that mingle Rastafari references, social commentary and more intimate themes. After several singles and collaborations within Jamaica’s new generation of reggae artists, Hempress Sativa released the album Unconquerable in 2017. Her career has since taken her to Jamaican and international stages — across sound‑system formats, band concerts and festivals — in an aesthetic that links reggae’s heritage to contemporary songwriting.
