GIRLI
GIRLI is a pop project led by London musician Milly Toomey. It features a frank, direct songwriting style that mixes electronic pop, indie pop and punk influences. Born in London in 1997, she released her first tracks in the mid‑2010s and gradually made a name for herself on the UK alternative scene with singles that combine spoken word, melodic choruses and synthetic productions. Her lyrics address identity, relationships, mental health and questions of gender and sexuality in a direct, often autobiographical register rooted in urban youth experiences and queer culture. The debut album Odd One Out arrived in 2019, establishing a bruised, introspective pop foundation, followed by the EP Damsel in Distress in 2021 and the album Matriarchy in 2024, which continued that personal focus. On stage, GIRLI plays clubs and mid‑size venues across the UK and Europe, alternating headline tours with appearances at independent pop and LGBTQ+ events. Over the years her sound has shifted from rap‑ and abrasive electro‑tinged textures toward a more melodic pop, while retaining a colourful aesthetic and a persistent interest in feminist and queer themes.
