Born in Toronto as Lily Davies, Lilyisthatyou initially developed her songs as a self-taught artist, recording demos in her bedroom before returning to Canada in 2020 and structuring her project. Lilyisthatyou emerged in the early 2020s with “FMRN,” a track produced with Caleb Jacob, which established a direct pop songwriting focused on desire, shame, addiction and power dynamics. Her world navigates between alternative pop, synth-pop and pop-rock accents, featuring exposed, hook-driven choruses, straightforward rhythms and a way of combining party-song energy with intimate subjects. Following that, Lilyisthatyou extended this approach with tracks like “Party 22,” “Purity” and “Moderation,” where the frankness of the material remains central to the aesthetic. She is thus part of a North American pop scene that blends short formats, internet culture and autobiographical writing, while maintaining a tight vocal and narrative identity around confessional, edgy songs often built on the contrast between melodic lightness and darker themes.
