Jean Tonique

Based in France, since the early 2010s Jean Tonique has been developing a repertoire at the crossroads of house, nu-disco, French touch and the funk of the 1970s and 1980s, with a writing that seeks a balance between club effectiveness and a more organic texture. Jean Tonique first caught attention with a series of remixes and edits before releasing several EPs on Yuksek’s Partyfine label, a setting in which his work found a natural place between electronic pop, smooth groove and hip-hop-inspired rhythms. His first album, Well Mannered Frivolity, appeared in 2018, followed by Sunny Side Up in 2019, extending this approach with tracks more song-oriented while preserving round basses, bright keyboards and a strong sense of rhythmic bounce. In 2020, the Scrambled Eggs EP returned to a form more directly aimed at the dancefloor. Jean Tonique has also signed collaborations, notably with Warner Case, and continues to alternate original productions, singles and DJ activities. On stage as in his studio releases, Jean Tonique crafts a supple and melodic music, nourished by vintage references but conceived in a contemporary format.
