Heather Nova

Born in Bermuda under the name Heather Allison Frith, Heather Nova grew up partly aboard a family sailboat between the Atlantic and the Caribbean, a setting that often echoes the intimate, mobile atmosphere of her songs. Later settling in the United States and then in London around the early 1990s, she developed a writing style situated between alternative rock, folk rock and indie pop, propelled by a soft yet taut voice, restrained arrangements, and a pronounced attention to acoustic textures. After a first EP released in 1990 under the name Heather Frith, she adopted the name Heather Nova and released Glow Stars in 1993, followed by Oyster in 1994, a record that established her on the rock and folk stages of the decade. Siren in 1998 further broadened her audience, followed by a string of records that evolved her format between band and a more stripped-down approach, notably South in 2001, Storm in 2003, Redbird in 2005, The Jasmine Flower in 2008, 300 Days at Sea in 2011, The Way It Feels in 2015, Pearl in 2019, Other Shores in 2022 and Breath and Air in 2025. Heather Nova also released The Sorrowjoy in 2006, a spoken-word project around her poems, and has occasionally collaborated with Eskobar and ATB, while continuing a steady trajectory on European stages.
