Gnarls Barkley
Born in Atlanta around the meeting of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley established itself in the mid-2000s as an American duo at the crossroads of neo-soul, psychedelic soul, hip-hop and a flexible form of alternative rock. The project brings together CeeLo Green's expressive vocal writing, then already connected to the Atlanta scene with Goodie Mob and his solo records, and Danger Mouse's productions, previously noted for The Grey Album and then for his work with Gorillaz. Even before its first album, Gnarls Barkley appeared on a few collaborations, then released St. Elsewhere in 2006, led by the track Crazy, whose blend of groove-soul, pop tension and quirky arrangements gives a precise image of its aesthetics. The duo extends this direction on The Odd Couple in 2008, with a more oblique writing and tracks that mix psychedelia, rhythm and blues, pop and darker textures. On stage, Gnarls Barkley has often performed with a marked visual presentation and a taste for visual cross-dressing, while traveling between festivals, television and international tours, notably alongside Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2007. After a long pause, Gnarls Barkley resumed activity in 2026 with Atlanta, announced as the duo's third album.
