Draconian

Formed in Säffle in western Sweden, Draconian took shape in the mid-1990s around Anders Jacobsson and Johan Ericson, initially under a different name before adopting their current identity. Draconian is part of the Scandinavian doom/death scene, combining slow tempos, thick guitars, understated keyboards and gothic atmospheres, and relying on the contrast between harsh male vocals and clear female singing. After several demos in the late 1990s, they released Where Lovers Mourn (2003), Arcane Rain Fell (2005) and Turning Season Within (2008) — three records that established the foundations of their style, between melodic death-doom, gothic metal and extended compositions. A Rose for the Apocalypse (2011), Sovran (2015) and Under a Godless Veil (2020) continued this trajectory with broader production and a persistent focus on the tension between heaviness, melody and darkness. Over the years Draconian has undergone several lineup changes, notably in the vocal parts, while maintaining a coherent identity and appearing regularly on European metal stages associated with doom and gothic metal.
