Don Choa
Born in Toulouse in 1974 and soon associated with Marseille, Don Choa emerged in the late 1990s as part of the Fonky Family, a Marseille collective active in the rise of the local rap scene. His deep voice, staccato flow and direct writing place him in a dark, narrative street rap, supported by productions marked by boom bap and a Mediterranean tint. With the Fonky Family, Don Choa contributed notably to Si Dieu veut... (1998), Art de rue (2001) and Marginale musique (2006). At the same time he pursued a solo path with Vapeurs toxiques (2002) and Don Choa en personne (2007), two albums that continue his upfront, often autobiographical register focused on the city, loyalty and the tensions of everyday life. Over the 2020s, Don Choa has reappeared on stage with the Fonky Family and on several collective projects linked to Marseille rap.
