Daddy Long Legs

Born in New York, Daddy Long Legs belongs to an American tradition that mixes primitive rhythm and blues, garage rock, blues punk and nervy rock’n’roll. The trio made a name for itself in the early 2010s on the New York scene with a dry, direct sound driven by harmonica, a taut guitar and minimalist drums — a format that evokes both urban blues and the energy of punk and pub rock. From the start Daddy Long Legs has pursued a raw aesthetic centered on rhythm, rough spoken word and short songs, often constructed like street sermons or electric bursts. Across tours the band has circulated through the independent rock scenes of the US and Europe, keeping a very physical approach to live shows. Along the way Daddy Long Legs has broadened its scope without smoothing out its identity: Street Sermons, the fourth studio album, was recorded in Catskill with Oakley Munson and features contributions from Wreckless Eric and John Sebastian on some tracks. Daddy Long Legs thus occupies a distinctive place between old blues, contemporary urgency and New York’s DIY culture.
