Moonjam
Formed in Denmark in the mid-1980s by brothers Morten and Rasmus Kærså, Moonjam sits in a pop-rock register where instrumental passages play a central role, with a saxophone very present in the group's identity. First active under the name Moon Jam Band from 1983, the ensemble took its well-known shape in 1985 and released its first album, Morten Kærså & Moonjam, in 1987, followed notably by Østen for solen in 1988, Bag De Blå Bjerge in 1990, 1991 in 1991, Songs For Saxophone in 1993, Butterfly in 1994, Annabella in 1996, Saxophonesongs Vol. 2 in 1997, Xax xonx in 2000, Raining in Asia in 2009 and Bandet og Den U skyldige Morder in 2011. Moonjam's sound blends pop melodies, light rock, touches of jazz and atmospheres sometimes new age, in an accessible format where songs and instrumental pieces alternate. Along its journey, Moonjam has seen several musicians come and go around the core formed by the Kærså brothers, notably Jens Haack then Benjamin Koppel on saxophone, before the arrival of Bob Ricketts, while Mikkel Nordsø joined the band on guitar in 2009. Moonjam has also collaborated with artists such as Lars Muhl, Søs Fenger and Sebastian, and the group has circulated on the Danish scene for several decades, including in festival contexts like Roskilde.
