NiNi

Based between Taiwan and the United States according to information available on her artistic profiles, NiNi develops a project at the crossroads of Asian folk and modern metal, driven by a central use of traditional Chinese instruments such as the sanxian, the ruan, or the liuqin. Around NiNi, who handles the singing and instrumental parts, the project takes the form of an ensemble in which also the singer Jesse Vnm participates, in an approach that blends metal vocals, heavy rock textures and melodies drawn from East Asian repertoires. NiNi has been noted for this combination of ancestral instrumentation and contemporary production, in a format that avoids folkloric reconstruction in favor of a more direct language, between alternative metal, folk metal and more atmospheric passages. NiNi's musical identity rests on this contrast between traditional plucked strings, assertive rhythms and expressive singing, with particular attention paid to the balance between cultural heritage and present writing. On stage as in recording, NiNi thus builds a repertoire where the codes of metal dialogue with traditional sonorities without reducing them to mere décor.
