Uuhai

Formed in Ulaanbaatar in 2020, Uuhai brings together seven musicians around a folk‑metal approach that blends Mongolian throat singing, the horse‑head fiddle (morin khuur), traditional percussion and a more direct rock‑metal backbone. The project was launched by drummer Otgonbaatar Damba, also a member of Hurd, and develops a songwriting voice that draws on Mongolian vocal and instrumental forms without separating them from a dense electric sound. Uuhai first gained attention with a series of videos released in 2022, including Khun Sureg, Ser Ser and Uuhai, the latter featuring Hurd. On stage the band quickly framed this repertoire internationally with a first European tour in 2023, which included a stop in Paris. Uuhai’s music relies on alternation between clean vocals, guttural singing, bowed strings and driving rhythms, in an aesthetic where traditional motifs remain central rather than mere ornamentation. After several singles, Uuhai released the album Human Herds in 2026 via Napalm Records, extending this encounter between Mongolian heritage, heavy metal and contemporary rock formats.
