Dr. Motte

Born in Berlin as Matthias Roeingh, Dr. Motte made his mark in the early German electronic scenes from the mid-1980s, first as a DJ before shifting his focus toward house from 1987, following the example of Chicago productions. His career remains closely tied to Berlin, where he launched the first Love Parade in 1989 — an event that began on a local scale and grew into something much larger through the 1990s. Active at the Planet Club in the early part of that decade, Dr. Motte co-founded the label Space Teddy Recordings with Uwe Reineke in 1992. His music moves between techno, house, trance and ambient, with tracks designed for the club as well as more atmospheric formats. Under the alias Euphorhythm he released the album Chill Out Planet Earth in 1992, followed by Politics of Life (The Collection of Experiences) in 1995. Over his career he has worked with artists such as 3 Phase, WestBam, Robert Babicz, Tom Wax, Eric Sneo, Gabriel le Mar, Marc van Linden and DJ Dag, while remaining associated with Berlin’s rave culture and its contemporary offshoots.
