DJ Cam
Active on the Paris scene since the early 1990s, DJ Cam, whose real name is Laurent Daumail, belongs to the trip hop and instrumental hip‑hop current that connects club culture, jazz heritage and electronic influences. From the French capital, he gained attention in the mid‑1990s with his debut album Underground Vibes (1994), marked by downtempo rhythms, jazz samples and a cinematic approach to sound, which anchored him in the emerging abstract hip‑hop movement. By founding the label Inflammable Records, he also helped spread related aesthetics across independent rap, nu‑jazz and experimental beats. DJ Cam’s discography alternates studio projects, live recordings and remix series, with recurring collaborations with anglophone rappers and soul singers, while retaining a strong rooting in French hip‑hop culture. Through the 2000s and 2010s his productions shifted toward more melodic textures, sometimes bordering on lounge or electronic pop, while he continued his work as a producer and composer of atmospheric soundtracks.
