Jazzanova
Based in Berlin since the mid-1990s, Jazzanova brings together Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisering and Axel Reinemer around a shared language that blends nu jazz, downtempo, broken beat, soulful house, funk and Latino influences. First noticed for its maxi singles and remixes in the late 1990s, the collective also established itself as a player on the Berlin scene by cofounding the Sonar Kollektiv label in 1997. Jazzanova's trajectory has been built as much through studio work as through DJ culture, with a focus on arrangements, flexible rhythms and the crossovers between electronics and organic instrumentation. Their first album In Between appeared in 2002, followed by Of All the Things in 2008, then Funkhaus Studio Sessions in 2012, recorded with live musicians and Paul Randolph's vocals, before The Pool in 2018. In 2022, Jazzanova also signed Strata Records: The Sound of Detroit Reimagined by Jazzanova, a project centered on reinterpreting a historical catalog. On stage as in DJ sets, Jazzanova moves between clubs, festivals and hybrid formats, with a repertoire that navigates between slow grooves, soul textures, contemporary jazz and dancefloor culture.
