Prozzak
Emerging in Toronto in the late 1990s in the wake of the Philosopher Kings, Prozzäk took shape in 1998 around Jay Levine and James Bryan McCollum, who chose to embody their project through the animated characters Simon and Milo. Prozzäk developed melodic pop infused with electro and dance-pop and a narrative humor that structures their videos, with songs focused on relationships, romantic disorientation and an urban cartoon aesthetic. The duo first attracted attention with Hot Show in 1998 and continued in that vein with Saturday People in 2000, a period during which Levine and McCollum also wrote for other Canadian pop acts. In 2002 Prozzäk released, under the name Simon and Milo, the compilation Ready Ready Set Go, propelled in part by “Get a Clue”, before evolving their universe with Cruel Cruel World in 2005, a more restrained and darker-toned album. After several years of inactivity, Prozzäk returned to the stage and studio in the mid-2010s with new singles and then the album Forever 1999 in 2017. Prozzäk’s trajectory remains tied to this hybrid identity between pop duo, animated fiction and an offbeat sentimental chronicle.
