Econoline Crush

Born out of Vancouver’s rock scene in the early 1990s, Canadian band Econoline Crush developed a sound at the crossroads of industrial rock, alternative rock, and post-grunge, carried by the voice of Trevor Hurst, the central figure around whom a shifting lineup has revolved. The band made an impression with the 1993 EP Affliction, which set out an aesthetic blending overdriven guitars, programmed rhythms, and direct melodic lines, before refining that formula on 1997’s The Devil You Know, marked by more structured songwriting and a denser production. Econoline Crush moved into the 2000s with 2001’s Brand New History—recorded in part with producer Bob Rock—where the industrial approach edged closer to radio-oriented rock and pop formats, then returned after a quieter spell with 2008’s Ignite, confirming a taste for hook-filled choruses and dark electronic textures. After several breaks and reformations, Econoline Crush resumed activity on stage and in the studio and released When the Devil Drives in 2023, extending a trajectory where rock energy, cold industrial-derived atmospheres, and a strong sense of melody coexist, primarily on North American stages but also through various tours and festivals that have punctuated the Canadian group’s career.
