Mekdes
Born in Ethiopia in 1998 and adopted to Denmark at eight months old, Mekdes first grew up in Starup before settling in Kolding, a town to which his career remains connected. Mekdes's songwriting sits between neo-soul, pop and R&B, with voice-centered tracks, understated productions and an often introspective approach that he largely builds himself. His emergence began in the late 2010s after posting his songs on Instagram, and with the single "Right Direction" in 2018. From 2019 Mekdes appeared on several Danish stages, notably at Spot Festival, NorthSide and Smukfest, where he made his mark on the live circuit. The EP Fly was released in 2020, written, performed and almost entirely produced by Mekdes, followed by the first album Greedy in 2022, which confirmed his taste for contemporary soul that is both melodic and stripped-back. In 2023 Mekdes featured on URO's track "Føles Godt", a collaboration that broadened his audience in Denmark. In 2024 the EP Mekdes Synger Toppen Af Poppen was released, and in 2026 Mekdes published The Boy I Am, a second album that accompanies a new personal and artistic phase after he made his trans identity public.
