Broederliefde

Trained in Rotterdam in 2013, Broederliefde brings together five rappers, Emms, Jerr, Sjaf, Edson, and Mella, in a collective format rooted in nederhop and Dutch hip-hop. The group formed from a circle of friends, notably from families linked to Cape Verde, the Dominican Republic and Curaçao, a background that fuels a very urban music, blending rap, sung choruses and Caribbean and Afro-pop influences in productions that are direct, festive or more introspective depending on the track. Broederliefde released Gevoelig Feestje in 2014, then Hard Work Pays Off in 2015 and Hard Work Pays Off 2 in 2016, a project that marks a scaling up in their trajectory. The group then followed with We moeten door in 2017, We moeten door 2 in 2018, and Broeders in 2019. Present on both Dutch festival stages and in a broader public setting, Broederliefde has moved between rap, urban pop and local collaborations, while maintaining a collective writing style in which multiple voices, registers and accents alternate. This group dynamic, combined with tracks tailored for live performances as well as more melodic titles, established Broederliefde in the Dutch musical landscape during the 2010s.
