Tribal Gaze

Rooted in Texas’s extreme scene, Tribal Gaze is part of a new wave of American death metal that emerged in the early 2020s. The band deploys a massive, opaque sound marked by thick guitars, simple but heavy rhythms and guttural vocals that remain intelligible, with tempos alternating between direct accelerations and slower, weighty passages. Tribal Gaze first surfaced on the underground circuit before moving closer to the Maggot Stomp label, which allowed wider distribution of their debut EP Godless Voyage, released in 2021. The following year the band refined this aesthetic on the album The Nine Choirs (2022), pushing further the contrasts between fast, old-school-inspired riffs, dark atmospheres and almost hypnotic sections. Active on club stages and specialized tours, Tribal Gaze shares bills with other contemporary death metal acts, consolidating an identity centered on direct songwriting, a dense sound and a no-frills approach to the genre.
