Undeath

Born out of Rochester, New York’s metal scene, Undeath crafts a form of death metal directly indebted to early-1990s American releases: hulking riffs, predominantly mid-tempo pacing, occasional bursts of speed, and guttural vocals steeped in horror imagery. Formed in the late 2010s, the band made a mark on the underground with the 2019 demos 'Demo' and 'Sentient Autolysis,' issued by California label Maggot Stomp, which quickly cemented Undeath’s aesthetic of macabre atmosphere, clear song structures, and a penchant for emphatic choruses. Signing with Prosthetic Records led to the debut album 'Lesions of a Different Kind' in 2020, followed by 'It’s Time… to Rise from the Grave' in 2022, where Undeath honed a more direct, rhythmically hooky sound without abandoning traditional death metal tenets. Buoyed by steady activity across North American and later European stages — from mid-sized venues to specialist circuits — Undeath has solidified an identity built on a head-on treatment of the style, favoring dense guitars, compact structures, and lyrics steeped in gore, the undead, and macabre fantasy.
