Casket Cassette
Behind Casket Cassette, Constant Williams develops a solo project from Los Angeles that sits between post‑punk, darkwave, new wave, EBM and synthpop, while retaining ties to indie and alternative songwriting. Casket Cassette draws on the dark, danceable textures of the 1980s and reframes them in a more contemporary form, where melancholic tension, crisp synth lines and movement‑driven rhythms coexist. The name Casket Cassette comes from a childhood memory: a song recorded on a cassette that was placed in his grandfather’s coffin — a starting point that helps explain the project’s tone without defining it completely. The lyrics address mental health, grief, breakups, addiction and recovery, leaving room for humor and a kind of persistence. Based in Los Angeles and a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop with an MFA in poetry, Williams situates Casket Cassette within the current darkwave and post‑punk scene, focusing on the contrast between weighty themes and a propulsive, danceable drive.
