Shallowater

From West Texas, the trio Shallowater crafts music at the crossroads of slowcore, post-hardcore, country and a dark, dusty Americana, in an aesthetic the band itself sums up as “raw West Texan dirtgaze.” In Shallowater’s work, slow tempos, heavily saturated guitars and melancholic melodies coexist with songwriting that evokes both wide-open spaces and harsher, indie-rock-derived textures. The project emerged with There Is a Well in 2023, a debut album where the mix of slow balladry, noisy tension and desolate textures already takes a distinct shape. Shallowater continued in this direction with God’s Gonna Give You a Million Dollars in 2024, accentuating the atmospheric dimension of their sound and drawing the songs closer to an austere post-rock crossed with country inflections. Between slowness, weight and sparseness, Shallowater thus builds a repertoire in which the Texan grounding remains central without being confined to a single genre’s codes.
