Davido
Born in Atlanta and raised in Lagos, Davido — born David Adedeji Adeleke — emerged in the early 2010s as a leading figure in contemporary Nigerian pop, after an initial stint with the group KB International. His breakthrough came with “Dami Duro” and the 2012 album Omo Baba Olowo, which established a sound blending afrobeats, afropop, R&B and touches of dancehall, driven by a flexible voice and a preference for direct, catchy choruses. Davido then pursued a career between Lagos, London and Atlanta, broadening his audience through a series of singles that became cornerstones of his trajectory, before releasing the EP Son of Mercy in 2016. That same year he founded the label Davido Music Worldwide, reinforcing his role as a unifying figure on the Nigerian scene. The albums A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020), Timeless (2023) and 5ive (2025) show a more international songwriting approach without abandoning West African rhythms, incorporating elements of highlife, amapiano and urban pop on various tracks. Over the years Davido has collaborated with artists from Africa, the Caribbean, the UK and the US, in an accessible, rhythm-driven aesthetic focused on melodic effectiveness.
