Danny Howells
Born in Hastings in southeast England, Danny Howells has developed, since the late 1980s, a career as a DJ and producer closely tied to the British and international house scenes. His work spans progressive house, tech house, deep house and a smooth, fluid techno often built on long grooves and nocturnal atmospheres. In the early 1990s a mixtape drew John Digweed’s attention, leading Howells to join the Bedrock circle and to open for the London night on several occasions over subsequent years, before also playing circuits such as Renaissance, Cream, Ministry of Sound and Twilo in New York. As a producer he began with Tim Cross under the name Squelch and later collaborated with Dick Trevor as the duo Science Department. His DJ discography is centred on mix albums and compilations, including Nightlife Report 1: Mick Boskamp Presents Danny Howells (1998), Nocturnal Frequencies (1999), Nubreed 002 (2000), 24:7 (2003), Global Underground 027: Miami (2005) and Balance 024 (2013). In 2008 he also launched the Dig Deeper label as an extension of his nights of the same name.
