Anthony Pappa
Born in Italy in 1973 and raised in Melbourne, Anthony Pappa trained early in the Australian DJ scene before starting to mix as a teenager and winning the Australian DMC championship at 15. He developed a career split between Australia and the UK, where he settled after crossing paths with Sasha and John Digweed on tour amid the rise of progressive house. His style sits at the intersection of progressive house, tech house and understated trance, with long, steadily built sets, gradual climaxes and a preference for tense atmospheres over instant effects. Pappa established himself mainly in the club circuit and mixed compilations, contributing to the Renaissance, Global Underground, NuBreed and Balance series, while performing across Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. As a producer, he formed the Freefall project in 1998 with Alan Bremner and recorded “Skydive” with Jan Johnston, a late‑1990s landmark blending progressive house and melodic trance. He also launched the Red Light District label in 2008, extending a career rooted in club electronic scenes.
