Planète Boum Boum

Born in France in the wake of mobilisations for ecology and social justice, Planète Boum Boum took shape in early 2023 during the movement against the pension reform, around a festive procession that brought together associations, unions and citizens. The collective developed a practice at the intersection of demonstration and celebration, blending electronic beats, chanted slogans, call-and-response singing and politically engaged texts delivered in an offbeat mode. A video by Mathilde Caillard, aka MC Danse pour le climat, helped widely circulate this aesthetic, while the track “Planète Brûlée” spread through both the marches and some activist parties. Musically, Planète Boum Boum assembles elements of electroclash, eurodance, house and techno, with collective choruses, borrowings from popular song and rap-like phrasing. In this way, Planète Boum Boum belongs to a scene where club culture, activism and mobilisation spaces intersect, with a repertoire conceived as much for the street as for the dancefloor.
