ADMT
Under the name ADMT, Adam Taylor has built a career rooted in lived experience, between Doncaster, his hometown in South Yorkshire, and the London scene. Initially a drummer as a teenager in a local band that even toured the United States, he later returned home and worked in a bottling plant before refocusing on songwriting and singing. Encouraged by a close friend to try a solo path, ADMT gave his first performance at a Sofar Sounds event in Camden, then followed with acoustic dates in a singer-songwriter vein with pop and folk overtones. A turning point came when he co-wrote the song “Prison” with Mikey Gormley, born of a period of psychological distress and a need to put words to that experience. ADMT developed a direct, simple and personal writing style, alongside receiving therapy through the NHS, and began busking across Yorkshire until he was able to leave his job. His acoustic cover of 50 Cent’s “Best Friend,” widely shared online and reposted by the rapper himself, brought ADMT new visibility; he has since continued with a repertoire focused on the intimate, mental health and everyday vulnerabilities.
