Girls in Airports

Formed in Copenhagen in 2009 by musicians from the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium, Girls in Airports create an open instrumental jazz that intersects ambient, afrobeat, folk, indie rock and repetitive forms close to minimalism. Initially a quintet, the Danish group later became a quartet while keeping a collective compositional approach focused on rhythm, melodic motifs and shifts in texture. Girls in Airports established themselves on the Danish jazz scene in the early 2010s and have since toured Europe, Asia, North and South America, performing in both clubs and festivals. Their discography includes Girls in Airports (2010), Migration (2011), Kaikoura (2013), Fables (2015), Live (2017), Dive (2020), Leap (2021) with the Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, and How It Is Now (2023). Across these albums the band has maintained a jazz approach that leaves ample room for interplay between improvisation, groove and atmosphere, producing a sound that is at once fluid, precise and informed by several rhythmic traditions.
