Vega Trails

Rooted in the British jazz scene, Vega Trails brings together double bassist Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet) and saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands). The duo emerged from pieces written on double bass during lockdown, which Vega Trails then develops into tight exchanges of deep bass, repetitive motifs and melodic saxophone lines. Aligned with the aesthetic of Gondwana Records, Vega Trails moves between contemporary jazz, acoustic ambient and chamber-music influences, favouring pared-back structures and meditative moods. The release of the album Tremors in the Static in 2022 marked the project’s first recorded milestone, establishing a language focused on space, timbre and the slow evolution of textures. On stage, Vega Trails favours intimate setups close to the audience, where improvisation and mutual listening are central, and is gradually becoming part of a network of venues and festivals dedicated to contemporary forms of jazz and experiential music.
