Fine Food Market
Based in Montréal, Fine Food Market is the solo project of Sophie Perras, a multidisciplinary artist who develops a sound situated between folk, dream-pop and experimental-leaning indie. The project draws on a classical piano training but moves away from a strictly academic framework to construct songs that are flexible, intuitive and often informed by a taste for contrast. You hear a country-folk foundation, hazy pop textures and a looser indie approach, with tracks that combine melodic lightness, distinctive details and more melancholic tones. Bilingual, Sophie Perras writes in both English and French, and Fine Food Market’s songs place significant emphasis on the intimate, with a voice close to confidences and occasionally shaded by irony or satire when addressing more difficult episodes. Over time, Fine Food Market has gradually defined a personal aesthetic of domestic imagery, luminous landscapes and restrained emotion, where apparent softness also lets a clearer sadness show through—particularly noticeable in the French lyrics.
