Benjamin Steer
Benjamin Steer is developing a pop singer‑songwriter project that draws on British, American and Belgian inheritances. His writing centers on emotional tensions, anxiety and the fragility of coming of age. His path began while studying economics at the University of St Andrews, when he moved from learning a few covers to writing his own material and sharing it online. In this early phase, tracks like Be My Love, Miracle, Sinner and No One Wants To Die Alone laid the groundwork for an aesthetic that mixes melodic pop, indie pop and contemporary ballads — featuring direct choruses, a voice pushed to the forefront and lyrics that address both romantic longing and doubt, solitude and the social pressures faced by his generation. Steer’s work is also highly introspective, informed by a form of perfectionism he connects to obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), without reducing it to a mere narrative device. His music straddles intimate confession and accessible pop, in a pared‑back, emotional style focused on the craft of songwriting.
